Work began on the construction of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque complex on a site by a main road between Muscat and Seeb early in 1995. It was completed six years later and inaugurated by His Majesty the Sultan in May 2001.It can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers and consists of a main prayer hall, ladies prayer hall, covered passageways, a meeting hall, and library which will eventually contain up to 20,000 books.
Les travaux de construction du complexe de la Grande Mosquée du Sultan Qaboos débutèrent sur un site de la route principale entre Muscat et Seeb au début de 1995. Le tout fut complété six ans plus tard et inauguré par Sa Majesté le Sultan au mois de mai 2001. La mosquée permet a plus de 20,000 pratiquants d’y prier et comprend un immense hall principal, un hall de prières pour les femmes, des passages couverts, un lieu de rencontres et une bibliothèque qui pourra compter sur 20,000 ouvrages.
