The Life Guards (LG) is the senior regiment of the British Army and with the Blues and Royals they make up the Household Cavalry. Since 1992, as part of the Options for change defence review, the Life Guards were joined together with the Blues and Royals in a ‘Union’ – not an amalgamation – forming the Household Cavalry Regiment (armoured reconnaissance) and the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (ceremonial duties). However, they maintain their regimental identity, with distinct uniforms and traditions, and their own colonel.
Les Life Guards sont une formation de l’ armée britannique . Ils constituent avec les Blues and Royals, la cavalerie de la Garde de la Maison du souverain. Depuis 1992, les Blues and Royals sont amalgamés aux Life Guards et forment le Régiment de cavalerie de la Maison royale (Household Cavalry Regiment) tout en ayant conservé chacun des escadrons de tradition qui constituent le régiment monté (Cavalry Mounted Regiment) des Horse Guards chargé de l’escorte royale (Sovereign’s Escort of the Household cavalry).
