Ronda is one of the oldest centers of Andalusia bullfighting, which is considered the spiritual capital yet our days . In this town was born the so-called modern bullfighting. August 15, 1752, for the first time, the matador Francisco Romero, at the end of a race, requesting authorization to kill himself the bull. Francisco Romero is generally regarded as the « inventor » of modern bullfighting. The arena itself, built in 1784, has remained as it was, with the exception of steps that were built of wood and were rebuilt in 1962. The first bullfight of the modern style of Francisco Romero is given May 19, 1785 with Pedro Romero (Ronda) and Pepe Hillo (Seville)

Ronda est un des plus anciens centres de tauromachie d’Andalousie, dont elle est considérée comme la capitale spirituelle encore de nos jours. C’est dans cette ville qu’est née ce que l’on appelle la corrida moderne. Le 15 août 1752, pour la première fois, le torero Francesco Romero,  à la fin d’une course, demande l’autorisation de tuer lui-même le taureau . Francisco Romero est généralement considéré comme « l’inventeur » de la corrida moderne. L’arène proprement dite, édifiée en 1784, est restée telle qu’elle était, à l’exception des gradins qui étaient construits en bois et qui ont été reconstruits en dur en 1962. La première corrida issue du style moderne de Francesco Romero y a été donnée le 19 mai 1785 avec Pedro Romero (de Ronda) et Pepe Hillo (de Séville).
