Young wild sow-Jeune laie

It is the wild ancestor of the domestic pig, an animal with which it freely hybridises. Wild boar are native across much of Northern and Central Europe, the Mediterranean region. Populations have also been artificially introduced in some parts of the world, most notably the Americas and Australasia. Elsewhere, populations have also become established after escapes of wild boar from captivity.

C’est l’ancêtre sauvage de notre porc domestique, un animal avec lequel il s’hybride librement. Le sanglier est issus de toute l’Europe du Nord, Europe Centrale et la région méditerranéenne. Certains sujets furent introduits artificiellement dans d’autres parties du monde, spécialement en Amériques et en Asie australe. Ailleurs, des évasions de sangliers ont permis l’établissement de colonies en provenance de captivité.
